The Rolling Stone 500 was published
in the December 11, 2003 issue of Rolling Stone magazine. The list was compiled
by a group made up of fans, singers, songwriters, musicians, producers, label executives,
artist managers, historians and critics. The group was asked to list their
top fifty albums, in order of preference. The voters were free to choose on
their own criteria or taste. More than 2, 400 albums were submitted and the
results were tabulated based on a weighted point system.
